At first I was not happy with this purchase because I didn't receive the email as advertised from the seller explaining how to perform the free upgrade to enable the scanner to retrieve ABS and SRS codes. A quick email to Amazon got me a phone number to the seller who very promptly and courteously forwarded me the link for the upgrade. I experienced a few problems at Innova's web site while performing the upgrade but I switched to Chrome browser instead of IE and everything worked perfectly. Pretty sure this was not Innova's problem. I specifically purchased this scanner to repair an ABS code on a 2003 Silverado and an SRS code on a 2009 HHR. Had I researched the available information, I would have seen that this scanner will not read the SRS codes on the HHR. (My fault and one of the rare exceptions of vehicles it won't read) That being said, let me explain to you that I was a professional automotive and heavy truck technician for forty years before I retired 5-1-14. In my last position I was a fleet supervisor for a fortune 100 company with 28 mechanics who repaired everything from chainsaws to 18 wheelers. I was also a member of the management team that purchased scanners for our company. This scanner is not a Snap-On Solus nor is it a Tech-2 but it does not cost $4k. A scanners ability to retrieve a DTC is only half the battle. This scanner actually gives you access to real time live data stream values and freeze frame data that will help even a novice technician properly diagnose a trouble code. This information will help make you a diagnostician instead of an expensive parts changer. Why in the world would anyone pay $50 - $100 for a simple code reader when this scanner gives you so much more for $130. I highly recommend it but do the research on your specific vehicle first. I purchased this on 11July2010. Today is 24June15 so I've had it almost 5 years. I used it on a couple vehicles after purchasing it to become familiar with it and it worked well. I then placed it on a shelf for the time when I might need to use it. Today is that day. I put new batteries in it and the blue backlight comes on but there are no characters on the display. I tried it on three different vehicles (2 of the 3 vehicles are the same as when I purchased this device) and the green LED lights when connected to one vehicle and the red LED lights on the other but I see nothing on the blue backlight screen on this device. I've had plenty of electronic devices over the years that I use infrequently and very frequently that have worked over 5+ years. Unfortunately this is not one of them. Highly disappointed.
